Tour of West Kennet Long Barrow

Postcard of West Kennet Long Barrow

A highly recommended stop-off on our Stonehenge Tour is West Kennet Long Barrow in Avebury. Dating back to 3650 BC, this is one of the most impressive and well preserved ancient tombs in Britain, and in use for over a thousand years.

Massive stones stand at the entrance and the remains of at least 46 people have been found inside. There’s some evidence to suggest that their skulls and leg bones were taken elsewhere… but where, and why, remains a mystery.
