HMS Victory with caption 'What's Up Dock?'.

Portsmouth is a port and naval base on England’s south coast famous for its maritime heritage, which dates right back to Roman times. It's also the UK's only island city.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

At Portsmouth Historic Dockyard visit HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar and see original naval artefacts at the National Museum of the Royal Navy. There's an interactive walk-through gallery detailing the Battle of Trafalgar as well as HMS Warrior, the world's first armour-plated, iron-hulled warship.

Mary Rose Museum

The Mary Rose is a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII. She served for 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland, and Brittany, then was substantially rebuilt in 1536. She saw her last action on 19 July 1545. She led the attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, but she sank in the Solent, the straits north of the Isle of Wight. Housed at the Mary Rose Museum are hundreds of artifacts recovered from the wreck.

Spinnaker Tower

Portsmouth's 170 metre tall Spinnaker Tower is a landmark observation tower built to represent spinnaker sails billowing in the wind. There's a glass floor on the first viewing deck at 100 metres above sea level and the highest of the three observation platforms is aptly named the 'Sky Deck'.
